isirv is an open membership organization based on the principle of an independent scientific organization aimed at individual scientists, clinicians, public health experts, and others with a professional interest in influenza and other respiratory viruses.

The officers of isirv are elected by the society's membership as specified in the isirv constitution. The officers (e.g. President, Treasurer, Secretary) are chosen by ballot and the society is run on democratic principles.

isirv’s activities will be funded by annual subscriptions (membership), sponsorship of scientific meetings, and the Options Legacy Fund. Financial support may also be requested from other organizations such as international or national bodies, in particular those with a remit for public health and scientific and medical research.
