Dr Broadbent is a Lecturer in Virology at the University of Surrey
Prior to her current role, she was a Wellcome Trust ISSF fellow in the Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine, Queen’s University Belfast. Dr Broadbent has over ten years of experience in respiratory virus-host interactions, focusing on RSV and more recently SARS-CoV-2. Her expertise in developing well-differentiated human primary airway epithelial cells (WD-PAEC) facilitates investigation into respiratory virus infection and the subsequent innate immune responses in a physiologically and morphologically relevant model. Her current research is directed towards the role of respiratory viruses in longer term lung damage. Dr Broadbent is actively involved with science outreach and engagement and has been involved with over 800 media appearances during the COVID-19 pandemic.
